LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety was notified around 1:15 p.m., on Thursday, August 8, 2019 of a male subject that jumped into the water near the Sandbar, and had not resurfaced.
Early reports indicated that the male subject jumped off a cliff and failed to resurface. Witnesses advised that Shields jumped off the approximately 30ft cliff, landed wrong, and never resurfaced.
The Division of Boating Safety began investigating, with assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Lake Havasu City Police Department Dive Team, and Department of Public Safety (DPS) Ranger Helicopter.
At approximately 4:09 p.m., the male subject was located deceased and recovered by divers.
The victim has been identified as Dane Jay Shields, 28 of Havasu Lake, CA.
This investigation is ongoing.
