Firework Information from MCSO

KINGMAN – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple calls regarding fireworks usage in Mohave County. In an effort to inform the community, here are a few things you need to know in regards to what is and is not allowed in Mohave County in regards to fireworks:

–In Arizona Revised Statute (ARS) 36-1602, it is unlawful to sell, offer or expose for sale, use, explode or possess any fireworks. ARS 36-1601 defines “fireworks” as anything that is designed or intended to rise into the air and explode or to detonate in the air or fly above the ground, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, sky rockets, missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, torpedoes, roman candles, mine devices, shell devices, aerial shell kits, or reloadable tubes. These items ARE NOT authorized for use or possession in Mohave County.

–ARS 36-1601 does not include the use of toy pistols, toy canes, toy guns or other devices using paper caps. Other allowable fireworks include ground and handheld sparkling devices, cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, illuminating torches, wheels, ground spinner, flitter sparklers, wire sparklers or dipped sticks. The sale and use of novelties, such as snappers (pop-its), party poppers, glow worms, snakes, toy smoke devices, and sparklers are permitted at all times.

—ARS 36-1606 (Consumer fireworks regulations) prohibits the use of “permissible consumer fireworks” on days other than June 24-July 6 and December 24-January 3 of each year. This means that only certain types of fireworks are permitted to be used on these dates. This may be prohibited if a federal or state agency implements a stage one or higher fire restriction.

—Anyone in violation of this article could be found guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor and subject to a fine in upwards of $1,000. Anyone residing inside city limits should review their city’s fireworks ordinances.

— Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has implemented fire restrictions on BLM managed lands beginning June 20. This restrictions includes fireworks usage, exploding targets, and incendiary devices. For more information on this restriction, please visit www.wildlandfire.az.gov.
