FORT MOHAVE — A Fort Mohave man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a knife in a business on Highway 95 in Fort Mohave.
Mohave County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Augustine Gabriel Lewis, 39, of Fort Mohave, for armed robbery and dangerous drug possession, both felonies.
Deputies responded to a call about 5:50 p.m. June 25 to a business in the 4700 block of Highway 95 in reference to an armed robbery attempt.
A deputy in the area responded to the call about five minutes after it was received. The deputies were told, upon entering the business, that the man was allegedly armed with a knife. He reportedly had seen the deputy approaching and ran out the opposite door.
The deputy left and later noticed Lewis with his arms crossed over his chest. The deputy could not see his hands, but could see the end of a chrome colored knife and drew his weapon. The deputy ordered Lewis to drop the knife, and he reportedly refused. According to MCSO, after several more verbal commands, Lewis dropped the knife and was told to get down on the ground. Lewis was then placed in restraints by the deputy. A pat search allegedly revealed 1.4 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket.
After speaking with employees, deputies learned that Lewis reportedly entered the business and immediately began pacing back and forth in a nervous manner. Employees also reported that Lewis walked up to a register counter and pulled out a knife. According to MCSO, an employee saw the knife and told Lewis to put it away, while another employee went to the back of the business to call the police. The employee stated there were other patrons in the business at the time and felt she was in danger.
Lewis was arrested and booked into Mohave County Adult Detention Center without further incident.
