KINGMAN — It’s a doggie wedding!
Help Animals Lives Today (HALT) is hosting a free dog wedding party today from 2-3 p.m. at the facility, 6625 North Massachusetts Dr.
Bailey and Teddy will be tying the knot this afternoon. Guests are invited to attend and share wedding cake and give dog treats to the on-site residents.
HALT has had a difficult time adopting out both of the animals. Teddy, the German Shepherd, has been at HALT for about 6 years now.
“Teddy has been here for quite a while now, and he was so terribly abused,” said Lotti Benker, the group’s founder. “He’s so scared that he’s totally unadoptable at this point.”
HALT was started nearly 19 years ago and has always been a no-kill rescue. According to their website, they are dedicated to the welfare of companion animals and the sheltering and placement of these animals, the prevention of cruelty to animals and of pet overpopulation, providing educational programs on responsible pet ownership and adoption, spay and neuter benefits, creating paid foster homes for pets with planned pet trust funds and securing and planning for a pet’s future when owners become unable to care for them.
The organization stands by its philosophy that if the animal is not adoptable, it will be allowed to stay and live out the rest of its life there at the facility.
The organization works closely with other rescue groups in the area. They also work hard to get the animals adopted by holding adoption events and adopting through Petfinder.
HALT can use all the donations and volunteers they can get. This is a busy season for them, with lots of animals coming in.
