MONTEBELLO, Calif. — It’s real.

The police in Montebello, Calif. are missing one of their patrol vehicles.

Montebello Police personnel discovered about 3 p.m. May 21 that a marked black and white Montebello patrol vehicle was not parked in its designated parking stall at the police facility.

The police vehicle is described as a 2018 Ford Explorer with a white roof, white doors with the rest of the vehicle being black. This vehicle is designated as Unit #9, with a California Exempt license plate number of 1429238.

The words “Montebello Police” are indicated on both sides of the vehicle and on the rear. The number 9 is located on the roof with the letters “MTB”, and on the front fenders and the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle is also equipped with an overhead light bar.

Upon discovery of the possible missing police vehicle, a teletype was sent to all law enforcement agencies that the vehicle was not accounted for. This was done while investigators contacted local repair shops and other vendors to ensure the vehicle was not being repaired.

Investigators were also reviewing surveillance video before reporting the vehicle stolen.

Investigators have determined the vehicle was taken from the public police department parking lot about 2:23 a.m. May 17. An unknown individual was seen, on video, entering the vehicle and driving away in the vehicle within ten seconds after entering it.

The vehicle was last driven by authorized personnel about 5 p.m. May 16 and was assigned to be driven again on May 21, the date that the vehicle was discovered missing.

The police vehicle contained a loaded AR-15 police rifle, a loaded police shotgun and a loaded less lethal shotgun. All weapons were locked and secured in the vehicle. All keys for this vehicle are accounted for.

Efforts to locate the vehicle are underway, including the use of GPS and other investigative tools available to law enforcement.

The vehicle has been entered into the stolen vehicle system. Investigators are asking for any information that would assist in locating this vehicle.
