KINGMAN – Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) was awarded an ‘A’ today when the Leapfrog Group announced their spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes KRMC’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.
The Leapfrog Group is a national non-profit organization committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. It assigns safety grades to hospitals across the nation in the spring and fall.
The Leapfrog safety grade has become a gold standard measure of patient safety. Developed under the guidance of a national panel of experts, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year.
The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“A couple of years ago, our CEO challenged hospital leaders to increase our focus on improving patient safety,” said Thomas Gaughan, KRMC Chief Medical Officer.
“I believe this grade is a reflection of our endeavors. We are determined to continue working on safety improvements moving forward,” Gaughan said.
To advance patient safety performance, KRMC uses industry-wide safety standards and measures. These measures serve as vital tools to identify where enhancements are needed and allow administrators to focus on areas that require the most attention. As a result, KRMC continues to implement process improvements to prevent medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
“To be recognized nationally as an ‘A’ hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
“Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error. We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who worked so hard to earn this A.”
