KINGMAN — A Kingman man was charged with aggravated assault on an officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded about 2:45 p.m. April 19 to a call from the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility about a man who allegedly assaulted a detention officer.
MCSO said Gregg Alan Maclaren, 56, of Kingman, had just arrived to the facility and was being processed by medical staff. He allegedly began yelling at the nurses.
According to MCSO, detention officers verbally ordered Maclaren to calm down. Nurses said they could not continue their assessment and officers tried to restrain Maclaren with handcuffs so he could be escorted to a holding cell. He grabbed a pen from the desk and lunged towards them in a stabbing motion.
Deputies said Maclaren dropped the pen after an officer grabbed his hand. Maclaren was restrained and escorted to a holding cell. Maclaren then struck an officer in the jaw and cheek with his left elbow as officers were placing him in the cell.
Maclaren was placed inside the holding cell without further incident. The detention officer was not injured during the incident.
