DOLAN SPRINGS – A man who allegedly fired shots at Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night is now in custody.

Wendell Wayne Odom II, 36, of Modesto, Calif., was apprehended by MCSO shortly after 2 p.m., Thursday. He was charged with aggravated assault on an officer, aggravated assault per domestic violence, first degree burglary, misconduct involving weapons and one count fugitive from justice.

According to an MCSO spokesperson, Odom had active felony arrest warrants for kidnapping and aggravated assault with MCSO deputies. Deputies had attempted to contact Odom on an unrelated case when the incident began.

When deputies arrived at the residence in the 13000 block of North Bullhead Road in Dolan Springs, the homeowner led them to an upstairs apartment where he and a woman resided.

Odom slammed the door and hid behind furniture. Odom allegedly fired shots after deputies shouted for him to come out. Deputies took cover and called a tactical operations unit for back up. They then learned Odom fled the scene.

MCSO later determined the woman was allegedly held against her will and assaulted in the days prior to this incident.

Deputies, detectives, tactical operations, K-9 units and MCSO command staff began a search for Odom. At approximately 2:10 p.m., a deputy reported a male who was running through the desert in the area of 3rd Street and Bullhead Road. Multiple units responded and determined that it was Odom. He was detained and taken into custody without further incident.

The case is still under investigation and additional charges may be pending.
