TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Yuma resident Sunday for an alleged attempt to smuggle almost 28 pounds of methamphetamine through the Port of San Luis.
Officers referred a 26-year-old Yuma woman for additional inspection as she attempted to enter the U.S. Sunday morning. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to a scent it was trained to detect coming from her Honda sedan, a search led to the discovery of packages that were inside of the vehicle’s fuel tank. The drugs weighed nearly 28 pounds and have an estimated value of almost $83,000.
Officers seized the drugs and the vehicle, while the subject was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
