KINGMAN – Mohave County Sheriff’s Department said a man identified as Kasper Gillespie, 23, of Kingman, was struck at 9:20 p.m. on February 27 by a train as he walked along the eastbound tracks directly across the highway from the Thompson Avenue intersection.
The westbound BNSF train noticed Gillespie and gave several warning blasts from its horn. Police said Gillespie was seen staggering and he crossed the tracks as the engineers activated the brakes. Gillespie was struck by the right-side stair rails on the front engine and was knocked to the ground.
After stopping, the train crew checked Gillespie, who was responsive, and called for medical and law enforcement to respond. Police said Gillespie was under the influence of an illegal substance and he admitted to using methamphetamine.
Gillespie was transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he was treated for several non-life-threatening injuries. This investigation is ongoing.
